Application Process

Step 1: Apply to HGHES

  • Complete and submit an application form. We will notify you by email once we have received your complete application.

Step 2: Receive acceptance from HGHES

  • We will notify you by email to let you know whether you have been accepted into the Haida Gwaii Semester.

Step 3: Pay your HGHES deposit

  • To pay the program deposit of $500, send an email transfer to admin@haidagwaiisemester.com or mail a cheque to HGHES, Box 927, Queen Charlotte, BC, V0T 1S0. Deposits will be applied towards your program fees.

Step 4: Register for courses

 

UBC Students:

Once you we have received your deposit, we will contact UBC to register you in the Haida Gwaii Semester courses.

 

Non-UBC Students:

1.  Obtain a "Letter of Permission" (LOP) from your home institution. To do this, visit your registrar or program advisor, tell them you have been accepted into the Haida Gwaii Semester, refer them to this website (www.haidagwaiisemester.com) and request a LOP to take 15 credits from UBC in the winter 2012 semester. Contact us for course codes and details.

2.  Once you have obtained your LOP, you can apply to UBC. To enroll as a Visiting Student at UBC for the January - April term of the 2011-2012 year, complete the Access Studies application at https://secure.students.ubc.ca/nondegree/apply.cfm

  • Under "Please select one of the following options", select "Other".
  • Under "Please select campus", choose "UBC Vancouver".
  • Under "When are you interested in studying?", select "11W Winter (courses starting September, 2011 to April, 2012)".
  • Under “Are you interested in on-campus courses?”, select “Yes”.
  • Under “Are you interested in distance education courses?”, select “No”.
  • In the section "Please describe your work, volunteer and education experience...", write only the name of your current university.
  • In the section "What are your academic goals and what course(s) are you interested in studying?", write "Haida Gwaii Semester".
  • You will need to provide UBC with a transcript and a $61.20 application fee.

3.  Contact us when you receive notification that you have been accepted to UBC to be registered in the 2012 Haida Gwaii Semester courses.
