Packing List

Haida Gwaii weather is diverse and dynamic. You will want to bring attire for all conditions (bright sun, winter storms, snow and rain) and occasions (field trips, outdoor recreation, sports, lectures and special events).

  • Very waterproof rain gear (jacket and pants, plus regular jacket)
  • A good, sturdy pair of hiking boots
  • Field clothes. They should be comfortable, warm, and quick-drying (synthetic or wool). You'll wear these during class trips to the woods throughout the semester, and especially during the Rainforest Ecology course
  • Warm clothes & regular attire (layers are good)
  • Day pack (for hikes/field trips/groceries)
  • Gumboots (or other waterproof footwear)
  • Laptop! (please contact us if you don't have one)
  • Alarm Clock
  • Camera
  • Medications & Prescriptions
  • Wetsuit (optional: for swiming/surfing/snorkeling) - also available for rent on-island
  • Musical Intruments (optional)
